Bones Coffee Flavors: Ranked

At this point in time, I have sampled 25 of Bones Coffee Company's flavored coffees.

These beverages have, in fact, assisted [?] me in the production of my album.

Perhaps you've seen their wild flavors advertised while browsing the medias.

That's how I caught wind of them. I was intrigued by the thought of a coffee that tasted like fruity pebbles and dared to have the name 'Electric Unicorn'.

But upon further inspection, I noticed that they have so many flavors and were enticed by those, too.

As if predicting that I would have such a dilemma, they offer sample packs of five flavors.

And so I proceeded to obtain said sample packs.

And did so again with more flavors.

And more flavors.

Now, I've had 25 flavors, and I still haven't had them all.

Maybe you don't know which flavor you'd like to try first, like myself. Or maybe you just want to see what wacky flavors they have.

Here's 25 flavors of Bones Coffee, ranked greatest to least.

All whole bean. A pinch of salt, a lump of sugar, and cream.

I will discuss the top 5 and the bottom 5.

TOP 5!

-Macamaniac

Macadamia Nut and Coconut

I must admit, I wasn't expecting to absolutely love this flavor. Sure, I expected to like it, but didn't expect it to top my list. The paired flavors compliment each other perfectly, giving a nutty yet sweet taste that is to die for.

-Wunderbones

Salted Pretzel

Some might look at this flavor and stand bewildered. But to me, it makes perfect sense. Bones seems to have really nailed the nutty/slightly savory type flavors in my book. I believe the pinch of salt I take with my coffee really brings out the notes in this one.

-Mustachio

Pistachio

I tried this one out of curiosity, knowing I would either hate it or love it. They did quite well with it. It's got a similar taste to pistachio ice cream in that the sweetness shines through with just that note of savory at the end.

-Chocolate Orange

Chocolate Orange

The top flavor on my list without any real savory notes, they NAILED the taste of the good old chocolate orange. And if you mean to tell me you haven't had one of those chocolate oranges that you smash on a table, unwrap, and eat in slices, I suggest you go find one because they're really good. After that, try this coffee and realize they're identical. The flavor is so strong that it wouldn't be good to have every morning, though.

-Electric Unicorn

Fruity Cereal

Ah, the flavor that drew me in. This was the flavor that made me decide to try some of their coffees. It did not disappoint. It tastes just like fruity pebbles cereal. Some may not like that in a coffee, but I thought it was quite charming. Much like the chocolate orange, it would not make a good everyday coffee because of how strong and distinct the flavor is.

BOTTOM 5!

-PB+J

Peanut Butter and Jelly

Not a complete miss of flavor. It does taste like a PB+J, but unlike the other somewhat nutty flavors it somehow misses the mark. Both the peanut butter and the jelly flavors taste somewhat chemically and fake. More like one of those terrible 'uncrustable' lunch packs for kids than what mum would make you. Maybe some people liked those, I don't know.

-Maple Bacon

Maple Bacon

I really thought they would hit this flavor out of the park. The flavor was really, really light on this one, and the notes that I did get were not that good. Not TERRIBLE, I still drank it. But it left me with a crooked brow.

-Caramel Apple

Caramel Apple

Perhaps I was just really pumpkin'd and caramel apple'd out last autumn, but this wasn't so great. I love autumn festivities; Pumpkin and caramel apple flavored everything is what I do. So I figured I would try Bone's take on the good old red on a stick, and I didn't enjoy it. However, I once tried another brand and didn't enjoy that one either, so it could very well be that I just don't like that flavor in coffee.

-Paradise Pie

Key Lime Pie

The previous bottom-listers were maybe just casualties of the long list of good flavors that Bone's offers, but this one was no good. I got it out of curiosity; The same curiosity that compelled me to get Electric Unicorn, and my hopes were just as high. But this one hit ROUGH. I think the off-taste I was getting was some poke at a crust-like flavor. Either that, or the lime recipe is just weird. I wanted to like it, but it wasn't happening.

-Highland Grog

Butterscotch and Caramel

The Grog was very surprising. I thought to myself "Can't go wrong with butterscotch and caramel, I'll get this one just to be safe." But wow, every sip had me wondering if I put sour cream into my mug. So I made a whole new pot with new cream just to be sure. But this flavor was for real not jiving with my taste buds.

There you have it. All my personal tastes, of course.

I'm not associated with Bones Coffee Company in any way, but I think it's really cool that they make so many interesting flavors. Regardless of if I didn't care for a few of them, they were all still exciting to try.

If you want my personal recommendation, I say go with Macamaniac.

It's smooth and delicious, and not overpowering either.

And get whole bean and grind it yourself.

That's not a suggestion, that's a favor you can do for yourself.

If you try some, let me know your favorite.
